Ms Sylvia Jeffreys

Journalist

Sylvia Jeffreys graduated from Brisbane State High School in 2003. Knowing she wanted to become a journalist throughout her latter years of high school, Ms Jeffreys was able to jump into her media career early as a script assistant while completing a Bachelor of Journalism at the University of Queensland.

Since then, Sylvia has presented and reported for Nine News, has been a co-host for the Today Show and reported many stories from New York as well as the major New South Wales bushfires and floods. Ms Jeffreys has become a familiar face across Australia as a journalist.

A significant career moment, rather than a highlight, was Sylvia's coverage of 2010-2011 Queensland floods which was a defining moment in her career.

Sylvia values the opportunity that State High provided: for every student, irrespective of background, to thrive in any area of their choosing. Exposure to the diversity of economic, religious and ethnic backgrounds of State High students has served her well in adulthood. She remembers many teachers and staff fondly and friendships forged under C Block are as firm today as they were in the early 2000s.
