Ms Kate Gynther

Olympian and Police Officer

Kate Gynther (class of 1999) is a Queensland police officer and triple Olympian, having represented Australia in 2004, 2008 and 2012 as part of the Australian women's water polo team.  Kate went through the QPS Academy in 2009-2010 whilst still playing water polo for Australia.

Not knowing what she wanted to do after leaving school, Kate had some part-time and casual jobs to help pay the bills while training and playing water polo full-time.

Kate went through the police academy in 2009 to 2010 while she was still playing internationally. "I was then doing full-time shift work and full-time training until the Olympics in 2012 . I retired from international water polo after London and have been working full-time as a police officer since".

Attending State High was a bit of a family affair. Kate's Mum, aunt and uncle all went to State High as well as her two brothers.  Kate's extra curricular activities mostly involved swimming and netball. "I did play water polo but there wasn't much of a competition when I went through unfortunately".

Her career highlights are unsurprisingly, representing Australia at three Olympic Games in 2004, 2008 and 2012 and winning bronze medals in 2008 and 2012. She also has special memories of being a student at State High during the QGSSSA swimming carnival each year.
