Mrs Amanda Reboul

Gourmet Food Importer

Amanda Reboul (Class of 1987) is the Managing Director of The Truffle Man and Effervescence Champagne Events. She imports gourmet food and wine from France and sells to restaurants and through an online retail store. Amanda also organises champagne related events in Brisbane and throughout Australia.

After graduating from State High, Amanda studied to be a therapeutic radiographer (now called a radiation therapist) at QUT and worked at the Queensland Radium Institute. Throughout her travels, Amanda had work teaching English to Japanese surgeons and a marketing job in a medical company in Europe, which led to a role at UQ in marketing for a research project. All of these experience set her up to be able to run her own business.

Amanda has many special memories from her time at State High. "I just loved the school spirit. I had some fantastic experiences while I was there with the extra-circular things I was involved in. My core group of friends is still my core group of friends over 30 years later! My Maths teacher, Mr (Bill) Simpson, was a legend, my history teacher, John Kotzas, was also very involved at drama at the school and I would love to meet my French teacher, Ms Sothman, again to tell her that I now speak French fluently, have French citizenship and three French born children!"

Amanda was very involved in a lot of extra curricular activity. She swam the individual 50m breaststroke and medley relay each year and was in the premiership-winning water polo team. Amanda was also part of the orchestra and concert band, playing flute. In 1986, the senior concert band went to Hawaii to be part of the Pacific Rim School Band Festival (the first time a school band from Australia had participated in an international competition).

When not working, Amanda spends her time doing pilates and hiking.  She has recently taken up water-colour painting, as well as adopting a kelpie puppy who is learning how to do sheep herding, with the goal of one day doing sheep dog trials.

Amanda's advice to current students is "Don't be too fixed in your ideas about what you want to do at uni, or be too disillusioned if things don't work out as planned. There is so much out there to experience and what you end up doing may be a universe away from what you thought you might like to do. Be open minded. Grab opportunities that come your way with both hands and make the most of them. You never know where they will lead".
