Mr Archer Hamilton
Satirical Journalist
Archer Hamilton (Class of 2008) is a satirical journalist and founder of the news site. The Betoota Advocate. He began his career as a journalist and worked as a radio announcer until The Betoota Advocate started in 2014, where Archer writes as his alter ego 'Clancy Overell'. Today, the news site has amassed a following of 751,000 on Instagram and 813,000 on Facebook. Archer has achieved many successes, such as a live tour around Australia and performing at QPAC.
His typical day consists of sourcing news and reports, followed by a lot of writing. He decides what would appeal to the Betoota audience and finds great stories to feature. However, with a lot of fun work comes some trouble, and there have been occasions when he has written articles that have been taken as gospel and have received backlash from politicians, other media and the public.
During his time at Brisbane State High School, Archer engaged in extra-curricular activities such as rugby, rowing and basketball. He enjoyed spending time with people of different backgrounds and learning about other cultures within the school's diverse community.
Archer says that you should "always have an open mind and not judge 'wacky' people. This brings out positivity and a creative open mind".
