A/Prof James Morton
Haematologist
Dr James Morton graduated State High in 1980 and has since developed a highly respected career as a haematologist. Not only that, but Dr Morton started the AEIOU program in 2005 that aids the education and involvement of children with autism while raising awareness and increasing support for them and their families. He also initiated the World's Greatest Shave in order to raise money for those with Leukaemia. Due to his immense service to our state, Morton was recently awarded the Queensland Great award.
During his time at State High, Morton was involved in many sports, including cricket, rugby, cross country and debating. He was a dedicated student and worked tirelessly to achieve his goal of pursuing medicine. Morton believed State High paved a pathway for his future and that the school prepared him very well for life outside the school grounds.
Throughout the AEIOU project and his career as a haematologist with specialisations in bone marrow transplantation, Dr Morton was faced with many challenges and obstacles in his path. However, he overcame his adversities by developing and reaching out to his support networks and the people he grew up with at State High played an integral role in his network. Not only is he extremely close with his friends from BSHS, but he also cycles with and regularly meets them to this day. He believes that the most important thing about State High as a school was that he had the autonomy to develop lasting relationships that stick forever.
