Ms Kerrie McCallum

Journalist and Editor

Ms Kerrie McCallum (class of 1991) is currently the editorial director of Premium Food and Travel at News Corp, editor and chief of Escape and editorial director of Delicious.

It was Kerrie's English teacher at Brisbane State High who suggested she pursue journalism and she later found that she had a passion for long-form, lifestyle writing as opposed to news reporting.

Kerrie has worked with many people who are prolific in their fields and notes that it is the diverse, passionate and ambitious people you meet in journalism and editing that make the job so rewarding.

As editorial director of Delicious, Kerrie has done a lot of work reporting on the hospitality industry and says what she loves about it is that it is "inclusive, creative, crazy and wild at times but full of very hard-working people who love what they do".

Aside from journalism, Kerrie has always had a love for sports. She fondly recalls playing hockey in her State High 'blue, red, blue' uniform, though she often got into fights with the coach, her mum. The hockey field was a place where she she has fond memories of building friendships, winning games against other schools with scores of 20-nil and taking the premiership title.
