Mr Luka Haralampou
Writer / Slam Poet
Luka is a Greek-Australian writer who has worked as a poet, hip-hop artist and lecturer across the globe. Through his unique and genuine style, Haralampou shares the powerful wisdom of his Greek heritage with the world. After graduating from Brisbane State High School, Luka studied anthropology at the University of Queensland. Haralampou also graduated with first class honours in indigenous studies at Monash University, later becoming an assistant lecturer.
Winning the Melbourne Overload Poetry Festival Slam in 2010 and then the Australian Poetry Slam National Final in 2011, Luka has gone on to collaborate with some of the most reputable poets in the world. His many career highlights include having one of his poems used in New South Wale's Higher School Certificate's end of year 12 exam, thus being the first slam poem used in the year 12 exams, being commissioned with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and being able to travel the world with the freedom of his occupation.
Luka's memories of State High acknowledge the high quality education of the school and the diverse pool of students from all backgrounds and demographics that attended during his high school years. This diversity created experiences which educated students to be 'street-smart people' as well as achieve their schooling excellence. Luka was a known rascal around the schoolyard and remembers people suspecting he cheated in his final exams, as he performed well with his love of English, Ancient History and Italian.
