Mr Michael Kasprowicz

Businessman and Australian and International Cricketer

Mr Kasprowicz graduated in 1989. Every day he looked forward to school and loved meeting different people. During his time at State High, he participated in a variety of sports including athletics, cricket and rugby. He recalls that the dedication and sacrifice of State High's fantastic teachers helped him in his pursuits.

Michael remembers being asked to open the bowling on the 5 Highs tour, an annual first XI cricket tour, at the end of year 8, in Melbourne. Throughout his time in the first XI he took over 100 wickets and received the Cricketer of the Year Award on multiple occasions. The trophy is now aptly renamed as the Michael Kasprowicz Cricketer of the Year Award.  In addition to his cricketing pursuits, Mr Kasprowicz was a part of State High's first XV rugby team and was also a member of the Australian Schoolboys Rugby Team.

In year 12, Michael was selected to play cricket for Queensland, where he found himself sharing a change room with some of his role models, including Allan Border and Craig McDermott. He eventually debuted for Australia in One Day Internationals and Tests in 1995 and 1996 respectively, taking 185 wickets across the three formats. He notably also received a silver Commonwealth Games medal in 1998.

Since retiring from cricket aged 36, Mr Kasprowicz has gone on to complete an MBA as he believes that there are strong links between business and sport. Currently, he is the chairman of SportCor, a company centred on integrating technology and sport.

Michael's advice to students is to learn from the people and experiences around you and absorb as much as you can, as you will look back fondly on this time at school.
