Mr Moses Rauluni
International Rugby Player
Moses is currently the coach of the Easts Rugby Union Men's 1st XV and had always dreamed of having an international Rugby career. Having played for Fiji in the 2003 Rugby World Cup in Australia, Moses' dream came true when he was contracted to the Sacracens Rugby Club in London for the next 10 years.
Playing for eight years and coaching for two, Moses returned from London in 2013 and started working with Glenn Hoskings and Dan Eadie (also State High past students) in their fencing business, Oxworks, while also having a stint assistant coaching with the Fiji Rugby team.
Moses has a strong connection to State High. He followed his older brother, Jacob (also an international player for Fiji), into State High, married Maile who is also a past student, and now his daughter also attends the school.
Moses fondly remembers State High for the friends he made at school. "I am still part of a close knit group of past students from all different years. We meet every year and have a cricket game before Christmas. We have played this annual game for over 20 years. I am still in touch with a lot of other old boys and girls from school. Living in West End, I still see a lot of families who attended the school and their families have lived in the area for a few generations".
A school highlight for Moses was in 1992, being part of the 1st team to tour South Africa after apartheid and winning the GPS Rugby premiership (but unfortunately having to share it with Brisbane Grammar School). His rugby highlights include playing three Rugby World Cups and coaching two World Cups for Fiji.
These days, Moses enjoys coaching with ex State High International player Mark Bartholomeusz at Easts Rugby and juggling time, trying to attend both his daughters sporting and school events. Moses' advice to current students is to make the most of their time at State High: "It goes so quickly. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't achieve your goals, and stay in touch with your old school mates".
