Ms Katie Page
Business Executive - CEO Harvey Norman
Kay "Katie" Page is an Australian business executive and the CEO of retailer, Harvey Norman, graduating from Brisbane State High School in 1973. Looking back at her time at State High, Katie Page expressed her adoration for the school and how special it felt being surrounded by the immense talent of her peers. Growing up, Katie loved sports and participated in athletics and running. Although she didn't play much during her time at Brisbane State High, the passion she felt for team sports remained the same and she has since become a supporter and advocate for women in sports.
In 2004, Katie became a member of the NRL board, making her not only the first female board member in the NRL, but the first female board member on any major sporting board across Australia and within six months, the AFL had also added a female to the board. After becoming increasingly aware of the lack of support for women in sport, Katie became involved in a number of projects to promote the industry. This led to her launch of the Women's Rugby League and sponsorship of the Muslim Women's AFL team, the Auburn Giants. She also co-owns the Magic Millions thoroughbred racehorse auction house, one of the biggest auction houses globally, with her husband, Gerry Harvey.
Reflecting on all of her achievements, Katie was asked to give a piece of advice to the females at State High who aspire toward a career in technology, sport or business. She urges all women to start their own business and to 'be their own bosses'. She emphasises the importance of making mistakes because "not only do you learn from them, but they give you the motivation to get back up and keep trying".
