Ms Teresa Tang

Neuroscientist

During her time at State High, Teresa Tang (class of 2013) was well recognised for her academic success, most notably, when she became world champion in the International Brain Bee Neuroscience Competition and later when she was awarded dux of the school.

She began her research internship at the Australian Brain Institute of the University of Queensland before she had graduated high school and completed another internship later at the Shanghai Institute of Neuroscience. Through this experience however, she discovered she did not enjoy research. Teresa went on to study at Princeton where she found that instead, her interests lay in healthcare consulting for pharmaceutical and biotech companies. She now plans to work for a health tech company where she can facilitate and be part of launching new products that can be used by everyday people.

Teresa fondly remembers being part of the instrumental music program at Brisbane State High School, led by Ben Ruben. From playing air clarinet on the train with new sheet music to hanging out at Southbank before performances, she noted that instrumental music was one of the most important parts of State High for her. She said her highlight was winning the fanfare competition at QPAC, surrounded by her friends.
