Ms Rhonda Binnie
Dancer / Teacher
Rhonda Binnie (Class of 1982) has been a dancer for most of her life, commencing classes when she was only five years old. She has fond memories of performing the State High legendary school musicals from 1980 to1982, playing a lead role in her senior year musical, Man of Steel.
After leaving school, Rhonda was accepted to dance at Kelvin Grove College of Advanced Education but instead decided to pursue her dream of becoming a dance teacher. At only 19, Rhonda established her own school which would go on to be known as The Ritz Performing Arts Centre, operating for 36 years. Many of Rhonda's students went on to perform professionally in The Australian, Queensland, Het National and Stuttgart Ballet companies, as well as at the Moulin Rouge and in major musicals.
Rhonda has also built a reputation for excellence in adjudicating performing arts internationally and is passionate about mentoring young performing arts students into the professional scene. As long term president of Brisbane Performing Arts Challenge (BPAC), she has been able to help develop competitions by striving to maximise student education in the form of bursaries and training equipment. Rhonda has also been a keen and valued member of the BSHS mentoring program since its inception in 2009.
Rhonda has recently started a new journey in the performing arts world as producer with Pengelly Productions and wishes everyone at BSHS a great year in 2021 celebrating the centenary of this great school.
