Ms Romy Vuksan
Performer
Romy Vuksan graduated in 2012. During her schooling, there were no dance classes to participate in so Romy took matters into her own hands and began a girls dance troupe in 2010. Her grade was also the very first to utilise the Performing Arts Centre (PAC) for fun dance concerts filled with joyous memories. She participated in music and music extension, playing in the flute band, along with learning singing, drama and maths, all of which she greatly enjoyed.
In term 3 of year 12, Romy received a scholarship to attend Jason Coleman's Ministry of Dance in Melbourne and she immediately jumped on board! At 17 she didn't truly know what to pursue, so this two-year course provided a huge stepping stone and a new beginning. While navigating the end of high school and the scholarship, State High provided immense support with her education. This juggling act was indeed worth it as this avenue provided her with exciting professional industry connections and further acting, singing and dancing tuition. Not only is Romy a professional dancer, she has a certificate in fitness, is a personal trainer, has aided technical aspects of shows and still wishes to further herself by "adding more tools to the tool box."
Looking back, Romy comments, "I didn't know what I would achieve" but she did know a future in a creative field was her passion.
However, it's not always glittery costumes and dazzling lights. The instability of working job to job is financially difficult, with the lack of security being emphasised by the lack of equal work to pay ratio. Auditions can be very competitive and stressful as the variables employers sometimes want are often out of the performers' control, such as hair length/colour, height and weight. It's not always centred around the long hours dedicated to training. Despite the trials and tribulations, Romy is thankful as she has travelled to Alaska, Mexico and New York for work, along with performing on the Norwegian Pearl Cruise's, Havana, and Dancing with the Stars.
